Bow & Instrument Making
Suitable wood is the one most important asset for the successful making of stringed instruments. High quality wood as a warrant of fine sound only developes through year-long storage in the right conditions. Having established my own violin making workshop in 1970, I took over the entire stock of Bavarian fir and maple wood from Ludwig Closner of Mittenwald. Part of the stock dates back to the 19th century and is used today by Lena Fischer for the making of both violins and violas. Between 1970 and 1980 I acquired three more logs of fine German fir and maple wood, which had been sawn and split in a wood mill in the Bavarian 'Allgaeu' region. The wood is now stacked in our store awaiting its call from the World of Music. Our works include models of various Italian masters, such as Ferdinand Gagliano, Tommaso Carcassi and Carlo Giuseppe Testore. Our most successful works are models of Guarnerius del Gesu 1742 the original of which was sold by myself.

Bow Rehairing
An average bow should be rehaired once per year. Christophe Collinet, our bow maker services bows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Bows may be left and collected the same day; we will offer bow rental during servicing.
For rehairing we use high quality unbleached white horse hair from Mongolia. For base-bows we use Chinese horse hair, both white and black. The slightly stronger black hair has a better grip, however, may not be as appealing to some musicians.
For further expert advice call or visit Christophe Collinet at our work shop.
